In the payment ecosystem, the most damaging attacks often exploit the gap between certified functionality and real-world offensive opportunity. This talk shares a case study of ADYEN (PCI PPO), a payment service provider, that invested early in deep security research on its merchant payment hardware. In collaboration with PCA Cyber Security (PCI APO) an experienced offensive security partner specializing in payment device internals, the company built a proactive program focused on realistic attack paths, exploitability, and defensive readiness. We show how this work helps turn technical findings into decisions that strengthen products, protect merchants, and defend against fraud before it is used by malicious actors.

Gianfranco is a seasoned cybersecurity leader with over 25 years of experience driving operational excellence, strategic innovation, and global pre-sales initiatives in the enterprise security sector. As Chief Operating Officer at PCA Cyber Security (since July 2021), he oversees operational management, strategic planning, leadership and people development, financial oversight, and cutting-edge technology adoption, empowering the firm to deliver robust cyber solutions for embedded systems.
Previously, Gianfranco served as Head of Global Pre-Sales at Kaspersky, where he spearheaded strategic projects for enterprises, major CERTs, government bodies, and law enforcement agencies worldwide.

Aleksei Stennikov is a seasoned Hardware Security Expert with deep experience in automotive, embedded, and payment hardware security. He is the Head of PCA Cyber Security's Software Composition Analysis (SCA) Team.
He has led hands-on research on payment terminals, developed custom hardware for security analysis, and presented at major global conferences including Black Hat USA, HardWear.io, and HITB.
